Mission Statement

The Creation of Softball according to Merv-

In the Beginning, Merv Created the Field and the Keg. Now the Field was empty and the Keg had no tapper.

And Merv said, "Let there be lights." and there were lights. Merv say the lights were good and he was pleased.

And Merv said, "Let there be gravel and grass to seperate the infield and outfield." So Merv made the gravel and grass. He saw that the infield and outfield were good , and he was pleased.

And Merv said, "Let there be bases in a diamond shape with a greater mound in the middle. This will be my space." Merv made the bases in the diamond shape and was pleased.

And Merv said, "Let there be men to play this game. Let them form teams so they can compete. Also give them beer to drink to keep them happy." Merv enjoyed this and thought it was good. He was pleased.

And Merv said, "Let there be a holy team, Let them be called 'Madsen Trucking Give them great players." Merv saw the Truckers and was pleased.

And Merv said, " Let there be bats, balls, and gloves. But let one be all powerful. Let it be my son's bat. Let it be called The Dwight Bat, and give it to the truckers so they can compete." Merv saw the equipment and was pleased.

And Merv said, "Let there be outs strikes, balls, hits, runs, and RBI's. The team with the most runs wins and each game shall be of 7 innings. Let there be ten players on the field and make their bellies become large and increase their consumption abilities" Merv say all of  this and was pleased.

After the seventh inning, Merv sat with his son and looked at his game. Merv was happy but his son Dwight reminded him not to forget the number 69, Merv understood right away and thanked his son... Merv handed him a beer. And they were both pleased.

The 69th Psalm - according to merv.

Merv is my pitcher.
He will throw strikes.
He lets me play on Fields of mowed grass.
And leads me to fresh cool beverages.
He gives me new balls.
He guides me on the base pads as he sees fit.
Even as I challange St. Leo
I will not be afraid because Merv is with me.
For the Dwight bat protects me.
You prepare a beer for me.
So all my enemy's can thirst.
You accept me as a fellow player.
And fill my glass full.
I know that your spirit and greatness will be with me all of the season.
And your field will be my temple as long as we live.

The Ten Commandments According to Merv.

  • I am Merv your god, who brought you out of the land of Algebra, out of the land of boredom. You shall have no beer before me.
  • You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of an expensive bat that has no power.
  • You shall not misuse the name of Merv for unjust purposes. Merv will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
  • Remember game day and keep it holy. Do not profane any day that there is a game.
  • Honor your bats and gloves, so you may play long in the league that Merv has given you.
  • You shall not strike out, for it will cost you a case of the holiest drink.
  • You shall not commit an error, for that will hurt the team.
  • You shall not steal bases, for that is against the rules. Instead, steal from others.
  • You shall not give false testimony against your batting average.
  • You shall not covet your opponent's balls, bats, gloves, or anything that is thy opponents; but it is ok to take that which you covet.
